The real child of God

In this article, I want to talk about some facts the bible tells us, which many Christians seem to miss.

In our days you see a lot of people, calling themselves as “child of God”, others using the phrase “God first”, or “God above all”.

These are bold statements and it would be really awesome if this would really be the case for all human beings, or at least those who use these statements. Sadly, many times these are just statements, without any truth behind them. In the past it made me think a lot. Trying to understand the word of God and studying this for some time, I got some answers, which I want to share in this article.

So let’s see what the word of God says about the true children of his Kingdom. I am talking about God Jehova, not all those other Gods put up through humans, or any dead, human-made God. I am talking about the almighty and living God, the creator of heaven and earth with everything on this planet, included us, humans.

Who are the real children of God?

The bible gives us all answers we need. Let’s start with some quotes.

John 10: 27
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

This quote says Jesus knows his children and his children know him and they follow him. We will get into that more specifically later.

John 14: 21
“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he is it who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him”.

John 14: 15
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

I think this is a very clear statement, Jesus said. It is not enough just to say, “I love Jesus”. He said: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”.

Let’s see some more quotes.

Matthew 7: 21 – 23
“Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?” And then will I declare to them “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness”.

Isn’t that a shocking statement? Imagine, those people were doing such things in his name, believing they are working hard for his kingdom and Jesus tells them he never knew them! I think this is a serious topic. It means these people are not his sheep. Because Jesus says, he knows his sheep.
We could say, but these people did such things in his name. So they knew Jesus. Well, Satan knows very well too, who Jesus is and as we read even he uses the word of God to deceive everyone he can. Satan knows the word of God very well too, as we read when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness.  Matthew 4: 1 – 11

As we can see: Satan does not care who he tries to deceive. He did not even shrink back and tried to deceive the Son of God. How much more likely will he try to deceive every human, he gets.

I think, because of these facts, it is even much more serious to do our utmost and pray a lot to overcome every temptation.
Jesus even gives us advice on how to pray too.

Matthew 5: 13
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”.

Many times I have asked myself, how this might be possible, believing to be a Christian, doing big things in Jesus’ name, and still be far from him as far as you can get. As far that he tells you, he never knew you. Isn’t this a shocking word? So how can we know and be really sure, if we are really his children and that he really knows us or let’s say recognizes us as his sheep?

Well, this leads us back to the quotes I mentioned before. His sheep know him, they follow him and they keep his commandments. I think this is one of the critical points. Jesus gave us clear commandments and he urges us to keep those.

So what are his commandments?

Well, on this topic we can spend a lot of time. Let’s see some quotes which are talking about the commandments.
As we read in Luke 10: 27
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself”.

This verse says actually really a lot. God wants us to love him completely, which means with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. It is not mentioned just with our soul. This verse includes everything about us. If we love something, it is always in our mind, isn’t it? Our mind defines our actions. This is what Jesus meant. If we love God with everything, our mind included, it will have an influence on our actions on our daily basis.

Loving Jesus is not going to Church every Sunday. Loving Jesus express itself in all our activities in our daily life. Being a real child of God is a lifestyle with the right mindset.

The right mindset will also help us to avoid sin. If we have God in our minds all the time, we will get a conflict in our minds as soon as we would be about to commit any sin. It is actually not possible to keep God in mind and at the same time committing sin. Having God in mind means living in the spirit of God, guided by the holy spirit.

Those, who just attend the Church on a regular basis but do not live in the Spirit of God are not real children of God. This reveals itself mostly through the fruits of the flesh. Since it is not possible to pretend something for a long period of time. The sooner or later everything is revealed and the fruits are shown.

The fruits of the flesh areas mentioned in Galatians 5: 19 – 21

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God”

God wants us to bear good fruit. Fruits of the Spirit since God is a holy God and he does not tolerate any sin.
