“And I will give you a new heart,
and a new spirit I will put within you.
And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh
and give you a heart of flesh.
And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk
in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”
Ezekiel 36: 26-27
As we read this quote, we realize God makes some big changes with the person, when the person commits to Jesus Christ. It is a big change within the person, a replacement of the heart and spirit.
God is talking about a new Spirit. This means a whole new mindset, a totally different approach to life itself, a new creation. The Spirit of God is divine, pure, and holy. This is the Spirit, which God wants to give us.
But therefore the person needs to be changed because with our egoistic mind we are not able to handle this kind of spirit. The second reason is, The Holy Spirit is holy and can not tolerate sin. That’s why God makes a real change, not just some fixing, and painting, but complete replacement. He forgives the sins, washes them away, takes the “heart of stone” and gives a new “heart of flesh”.
This complete change makes it possible to qualify to receive the Holy Spirit, there is no other way.
Why does God do this?
God has a plan for everything and does it to save us from eternal pain, in the first place. But he also wants us to worship him, of course. Worshiping him may sound like a burden, but honestly, who wouldn’t like to be a servant in the Kingdom of the King of Kings? For me, it is the biggest honor to serve in the Kingdom of the almighty God.
To be able to worship in God’s kingdom, we need the spirit of God. This is also a huge benefit for us because with the spirit of God we are able to recognize the traps, Satan placing for us to get us to fall. The spirit of God helps us, to avoid sin.
Further, we read in Hebrews 12:14
“Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.”
This is very serious, as we see in this verse. Without holiness, it is not possible to see the Lord. Therefore it must be the goal of every true newborn child of God, to live in the Spirit.
